Taste of Waiheke - Winery tour

On Saturday morning we headed off on a day winery tour which took us to Waiheke Island. To get there we caught the ferry which was a nice and relaxing 40 mintue trip. We sat outside and enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine.

Arriving at Matiantia, Waiheke
At Matiantia we boarded a bus and travelled to our first stop which was the Ridgeview Estate.
We were given lots of information about the growing of grapes and the history of the vinyard.

At this first stop we had lunch which was delicious....
A bus stop!
After this winery we visited another three!!!!, lucky I was not driving. We also visited an Olive Oil farm which was most interesting.

The last vineyard we visited was the Te Whau Vineyard where we got to taste the grapes from the vines. We climbed to the top of the hill and had some fabulous views of the surrounding area.

Auckland Sightseeing

Whilst our trip to Auckland was only very short we managed to fit in a bit of sightseeing. On our first day we jumped about the tourist pickup/dropoff bus which is always a good way to see a city and the main hightlights quickly, without having to worry about getting lost or disorientated.

First stop was a lovely park which gave us a great veiw back to Auckland.
Suprisingly, as the next bus came to pick us up onboard were none other than Val and Tony who we were meeting up with that evening at the races!

Next stop was the Penguin/Aquarium display. Peter got into the act of riding a skidoo!
The penguins were an absolute highlight. So cute!
That brown one on the left is the baby!
Watch out for the shark Peter!!!
Beautiful blue skies and a view towards Auckland.
Parnell - some cute shops here...
The Auckland Sky Tower... its mandatory isn't it when visiting a place with a tower like this that you go up it?
Wow.... looking through the glass floor of the sky tower!
Stunning views of the water and surrounding countryside of Auckland. Our hotel is in the foreground on the water!
This is one of the main dining areas in Auckland....
Heading up towards the Ferry Terminal....

Auckland, New Zealand

For many years we have been wanting to go to the racing in Christchurch, New Zealand. It clearly was not meant to be as this year we were all booked to visit when that terrible earthquake struck.

The races were relocated to Auckland, and at a rather last minute we were able to reschedule everything to head to Auckland instead.

Arriving just before midnight on Thursday 7 April we landed in a dark city with pouring rain.

On waking we found ourselves on the water with blue sunshine!
Angela enjoying a healthy breakfast - and figuring out where to go!
